The Argoflex

This is a little Argoflex TLR camera I bought on eBay which arrived on Saturday all the way from the US of A. These are medium format twin lens cameras that were mass-produced in the 1950s and 60s. It takes square pictures and has an oddball viewfinder involving flaps that open to create a little metal structure. Like lots of these old mass produced cameras, it produces distinctive images with a certain amount of distortion and uneven light. The 620 film it takes is hard to come by these days, but you can spool 120 film ... alternatively, you can make a splendid CONTRAPTION and shoot digital through the viewfinder. Guess what tonight's task is ...

What a great blog you have here! Fascinating subject matter and your photos are superb! I particularly love that umbrella, but it's all good!
